What are witch cauldrons?
A cauldron is a large metal pot often used for cooking or brewing. In witch lore, cauldrons are often associated with magic. They are sometimes used to hold ingredients for spells or to brew potions. Cauldrons can also be used for divination or to create magical fires.
Where was the first cauldron discovered?
The first cauldron was discovered in Denmark in the early 1950s. It is believed to date back to the Bronze Age, making it over 3000 years old!
These witch cauldron cupcakes are made with a simple chocolate cupcake recipe for the base, and we create a frosting “fire” to set your cauldron on. The Cauldron itself is made of black fondant. You might want to make these first.
Get Your Hocus Pocus On!
We know you aren’t the Sanderson sisters. Still, with the fun decorations and Halloween colors, these bubbling cauldron Halloween treats are sure to be everyone’s favorite chocolate cupcakes this time of year.
For the cauldron, you will need:
- 1 8oz package of black fondant
- 1 8oz package of neon green fondant
- 1 tube of neon green frosting
- 1 piping bag with star Wilton tip
- 1 package of fondant tools
Directions
Pinch off about 2 tbsp of the black fondant and roll into a ball.
Using the ruffle fondant tool (It has a round ball at the end), push into the middle of the black ball.
Work it a bit by using the same tool to create a deep hole in the center.
Using your fingers, mold the ball into a cauldron and create a little rim of the cauldron.
Using the neon green fondant, pinch off 2 tsp and roll it into a ball. Repeat the last step with the neon green fondant and create different-sized balls.
Squeeze the frosting into the piping bag with a star tip and pipe a dollop into the center of the cauldron. Place the neon green balls around the green frosting to create a bubble look in the frosting.
Set your cauldrons aside.

Witch’s Cauldron Cupcakes Tutorial
Let’s put it all together now and create edible art!
You will need your cooled chocolate cupcakes, fire frosting, cauldrons, and 2 C Halloween sprinkles.
Using an ice cream scooper, scoop a mound of white frosting onto the top of the cupcake and smooth it into a thick round disk. Don’t go all the way to the edge of the cupcake. Then take the cupcake and dip it into the sprinkles, so you fully coat the frosting in sprinkles.
Pipe a dollop of the red and orange frosting in the center of that to create a “flame” look.
Carefully place the cauldron in the center, and you are done. Let your little witches and warlocks go crazy with their tasty treat!
