A monkey on a cupcake
Black Velvet Cupcakes are a type of cake that are rapidly gaining popularity in the United States…especially for Black Tie or Holiday events. They are different than red velvet cupcakes and can really be played around with.
– 2 cups sugar – 2 sticks butter, room temperature – 2 eggs – 1 tablespoon cocoa powder – 1 tablespoon black food coloring – 2 ½ cups flour – 1 teaspoon salt – 1 cup buttermilk – 1 teaspoon baking soda – 1 tablespoon vinegar You can also use a yellow box cake and add a spoon of cocoa and black food coloring.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees and line muffin tin with papers. In a medium bowl, mix the cocoa, flour, salt, and baking soda together. In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar until fluffy, then add eggs, buttermilk, vinegar, and food coloring. Add in flour mixture and mix until well combined. Spoon mixture into muffin tin liners making sure not to go over half full. Bake for 15 minutes or so
