What is a teddy bear?
A teddy bear is a stuffed toy in the form of a bear. They are typically soft and huggable, making them a popular choice for children and adults alike. Teddy bears are usually named after President Theodore Roosevelt, who was commonly known as “Teddy.”
Where did teddy bears come from?
The first teddy bear was created in 1903 by American toy company, Morris Michtom. Michtom was inspired to create the stuffed animal after seeing a newspaper cartoon that featured President Theodore Roosevelt refusing to shoot a captured bear during a hunting trip. The toy company received permission from Roosevelt to use his name and likeness for their new product. And thus, the teddy bear was born!
Teddy bears have been popular toys for children ever since. They are often given as gifts for special occasions such as birthdays and holidays. And what could be more perfect than giving a teddy bear cupcake to someone you love?
What is the most popular teddy bear?
The most popular teddy bear is the Steiff teddy bear. Steiff is a German company that has been making high-quality stuffed animals since 1880. Their bears are well-known for their “button in ear” tag, which is a trademark of the brand.

- 2 1/2 C powder sugar
- 1/2 C Hershey cocoa powder
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 5 tbsp heavy whipping cream
- 1 piping bag fitted with a star tip
How to make Teddy Bear Frosting
Using a standing mixer, combine the butter, powder sugar, cocoa powder, vanilla extract, and heavy whipping cream and mix until combined and until stiff and creamy.
Pro tip: If the frosting, is still tough and powdery, add in 1-2 TBSP heavy whipped cream to make it smoother.
Frosting Your Teddy Bear Cupcakes
Place the piping bag into a large glass and fold the sides of the bag over the rim of the glass. Scoop the vanilla frosting into the piping bag. Bring the pastry bag edges up and twist them together to start decorating.
Add a 1 mm star tip to your bag.
If you don’t have a piping bag, try a plastic bag with the tip snipped off. Frost the cooled and filled cupcakes.
How to decorate your Teddy Bear cupcakes
You will need:
- 1 box of whoppers chocolate candy
- 1 bag of chocolate melting wafers
- 1 bag of caramel squares candy, unwrapped
- 1 package of small edible eyes
- mini circle cookie cutter
Take your cooled cupcakes and pipe all around the cupcake, making it look like a fuzzy bear texture. I find it is easier to move the star tip around the cupcake and push out frosting as I pull up on the pastry bag.
Take two chocolate melting wafers and place them on the top corner for the ears.
Take one caramel square and use your fingers to kind of play with it to get it soft.
Place it onto a cutting board or plate and flatten it out using either the bottom of a glass cup or a rolling pin.
Take the mini circle cookie cutter and cut out the mouth part of the bear.
Place the caramel circle onto the center of the frosting.
Place two eyes above the caramel circle.
Using leftover frosting add a tiny amount onto the back of the whopper candy.
Place whopper onto the top center of the caramel circle.
