We’ll show you how to make these delicious dog cupcakes using simple ingredients that you probably have in your kitchen. Let’s get started!

Dog cupcakes for a puppy party

When my kid was just four years old, we did a puppy party. The invites were made by hand and cute. Inside I had a little poem:

  • Puppy Parties Are So Much Fun
  • That is why we’re having one!
  • Instead of a toy that won’t be missed,
  • Please just bring something from this list:

We then looked over the wish list from the local humane society website and created a smaller version that we included with the invitations.

We had simple food like hot dogs, a large batch of Homemade puppy chow served up in cute dog dishes from my local Dollar Tree, and the addition of puppy cupcakes? It all fit the theme perfectly!

It was all wrapped up

What was fun? The other four-year-olds all had the items wrapped up! Gift bags, shoe boxes with fancy paper, and more to help surprise our kid with the gems they picked out for the cats and dogs. You can tell that they were excited about what goodies they brought for the animals and she had a lot of help opening things up to see it all.

Just look at how excited she was to fill up an entire shopping cart and more for the humane society.

Do you know a dog lover?

These are not only great for the birthday party of little kids, but also for dog lovers of all ages! I have an Australian Shepherd that actually ended up becoming a service dog. If someone brought me a few of these? I would be delighted!

Why do we love dogs?

There is just something special about dogs. They are amazing creatures that have been by our side for centuries, and many people believe they are a part of the family. They bring us happiness, love, and sometimes just a lot of laughs.

Why do dogs make good pets?

Dogs make great pets because they are so loyal and loving. They always want to be around their human family, and they are always happy to see you. Dogs are also very playful and provide a lot of companionship for people who may live alone.

Why do dogs love us?

Dogs love us because we provide them with food, shelter, and love. They know that we are their pack, and they always want to be around us. Dogs also look to us for guidance and direction in their lives.

Dogs seem to love us unconditionally. And we love them right back!

How do I make these adorable cupcakes?

The yellow cupcake base can be made from either a boxed mix or the following recipe:

Standard cupcakes recipe

A good yellow cupcake recipe for the base:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • 2 large eggs at room temp
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, cut into 1/2” cubes
  • 1/2 cup milk – the higher the fat content the better
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 tsp vegetable oil

How to make Dog Cupcakes

Preheat the oven to 350°F and place the shelf in the middle of the oven. Line the muffin tin with cupcake liners.

In a large bowl whisk flour, baking powder, matcha, and salt together. Set aside.

Place butter and milk in a microwave-safe dish and zap 2 minutes on high to melt the butter.

In a separate bowl, beat eggs for 30 seconds on medium-high speed.

With the beater still going, pour the sugar in over 30 seconds.

Beat eggs for 6 minutes more on a highly faster speed, or until tripled in volume and almost pure white.

When the egg is whipped, scatter 1/3 flour across the surface, then beat on low for 5 seconds. Stop beating, add half the remaining flour, then mix again on low for 5 seconds. Add remaining flour, then mix on Speed 1 for 5 – 10 sec until the flour is just mixed in. Once you can’t see flour, stop straight away.

Pour the hot milk/butter, vanilla, and oil into the now-empty flour bowl. Add about 3/4 cup of the Egg Batter to the hot milk. Use a whisk to mix until smooth. It should look kind of foamy.

With the beater on low still, pour the milk mixture into the Egg Batter over 10-15 seconds, then turn the beater off.

Fill your muffin tins with batter until they are 2/3 full. Bake 20-22 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.

How do you store our Dog Cupcakes?

Here is the thing – with the more futzy designs, I like to make them in advance of an event or get-together. The best way to usually store your finished creations? Room Temperature.

Granted, they aren’t going to be around that long – my family of three could easily take them out in two to three days. Since you are using canned frosting instead of buttercream frosting or fondant, they should be fine for five to six days. You can learn more about that in our article How To Frost A Cupcake.

I don’t want to confuse you – there are dog-decorated cupcakes and then there are cupcakes. Pupcakes are baked goods you make for your dog to eat. That is NOT what this recipe is. These are purely a tasty treat for humans.

Mix the shredded coconut and food coloring to create fur for your dogs.

Place the piping bag into a large glass and fold the sides of the bag over the rim of the glass. Scoop the vanilla frosting into the piping bag. Bring the pastry bag edges up and twist them together to start decorating.

If you don’t have a piping bag, try a plastic bag with the tip snipped off.

Dip that frosted cupcake into the coconut mixture, making sure the faux fur extends to the edge of the paper liner
